Assessing the Valuse of Educators' and Students' Technology and Leadership Knowledge and Skills
The importance of accessing the value of educators’ and students’ technology and leadership knowledge and skills and their perceived needs is critical to the ongoing drive to adapt the educational learning process to include technology at all learning levels. President Barak Obama’s goal for the United States is for America to have to highest proportion of college graduates in the world (U.S Deaprtment of Education, 2009) . In order to achieve this goal, our educators must know what our students need to graduate from high school and be successful in college. Many campuses have veteran teachers who are stagnant in their teaching process. They are excellent teachers when it comes to the basic R’s of learning. But, we are leaning that the basic R’s of education are changing and the teachers must be held accountable to those changes. This same concept applies to students. They must have their skills assessed to determine what they need to master in order to make them successful in this technology filled 21st Century. One of the downsides of assessing the value of teachers and students knowledge and skills of technology is that technology is changing at such a rapid pace. For example, a veteran teacher may feel as though they have finally mastered the use of email. Now, she is told she must use blogs with her students in order to communicate. Once she has mastered blogs and is effectively using it in her classroom, a new form of communication appears. It would seems as if he teacher will never successful incorporate the current technology trends in her classroom; therefore she cannot successfully transfer the information and learning process to her students
